Excellence in Logistics Skills for the East Midlands
October 10th 2007

AA partnership between East Midlands colleges is delivering training to logistics sector businesses from new state of the art premises thanks to government funding through the CoVE scheme. CoVE (Centre of Vocational Excellence) status has been awarded to Northampton College and Chesterfield College to provide a ‘one stop shop’ for all the sector’s training needs.

CoVE status is awarded to organisations that show a consistency in the quality of their training delivery and an ability to develop provision which is especially tailored for specialist sectors. The Learning and Skills Council (LSC) provides funding for CoVEs and monitors the progress of each centre to ensure they remain consistent and maintain high standards.

Northampton College has used its capital grant to invest in a state of the art conference and training centre at its base in Daventry (known as ‘Excellence in Logistics’) while Chesterfield College leads a partnership called ‘Wheels’ which has invested in its own dedicated training vehicles, warehousing, HGV maintenance and IT equipment across its partners’ three main sites.

In addition, a revenue grant exists to support the provision of logistics training and the development of new courses. A key benefit of using a CoVE supplier is the provision of a ‘one stop shop’ for any training needs in the East Midlands or indeed any alternative region in the UK where CoVEs exist. The partnership network allows each provider to recommend a supplier if they cannot help at their centre. The theme of the CoVEs is to provide a network of excellence across the East Midlands working together to raise the standard of logistics training.

Both Northampton College and Chesterfield College are developing wider collaborative partnerships and work with another local CoVE that has been in operation for several years at North Warwickshire and Hinckley College, based at Magna Park.

If you’re an East Midlands employer in the sector, you can expect top quality advice and training as well as access to a wide range of specialists without having to do the legwork yourself! Contact us for an initial, no obligation analysis details below.
