As a systems integrator Swisslog has designed many automated and semi-automated warehouses. In 2007 Swisslog acquired Accalon, the manufacturer of cranes and conveyors, which will enable us to increase our competitiveness in the area of less complex projects, where conveyor systems and stacker cranes account for a large part of the added value.
One of the projects won in 2007 is Coca-Cola Amatil (CCA) in Northmead, Australia. After earlier orders for automated distribution centres for CCA in Melbourne, Australia and Auckland, New Zealand, Swisslog won the order for an automated bulk distribution centre with 55,000 pallet positions and automated loading docks.
In Germany Swisslog has won an order for the expansion of the existing warehouse of B.Braun Melsungen, a leading supplier of products and services to the healthcare industry. The expansion includes another eight aisles in the storage warehouse and four aisles in the commissioning warehouse. This means that Swisslog will act as a general contractor for the construction, implement the additional hardware (stacker cranes) and the software, which operates the expanded distribution centre. The overall solution must comply with the validation requirements of the pharmaceutical industry, as defined by the Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) standards as well as those of the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA). These projects are just some of the examples of Swisslog’s extended supply chain solutions.
