4-way Combilifts – versatility at work October 01st 2005 When the Combilift allwheel drive 4-way forklift was introduced onto the market in 1998, it was seen as an innovative but quite unfamiliar concept within the materials handling sector. However, the advantages of “3 machines in 1” quickly became apparent to customers across a wide variety of industry sectors, and Combilift has now become a byword for the safe and space-saving handling of long and bulky loads. Over 4,000 units are now in operation around the world, with more than 1,000 in the UK.
Safe Space saver
The forklift’s ability to work inside and out, directly from delivery truck to internal cantilever racking, for example, facilitates best possible use of all space in undercover storage areas, in line with many suppliers’ need to move away from outdoor free stacking and to economise on the cost of floor space. Its 4-way capability enables low-level transportation in aisles as narrow as 2m and the low platform maximizes rack space utilisation. Combilift guided rail systems are now a recognised solution for speeding up picking whilst protecting the product and racks from damage. Using a Combilift also greatly improves health and safety practices. Its ability to handle long loads through narrow doorways eliminates hazardous high-level manoeuvres above racking, machinery and other obstacles, reducing risk to personnel and stock.
Customised Handling
The wide variety of lift capacities, mast heights, platform dimensions and range of attachments offered by Combilift for its range means that in effect practically every forklift is purpose-built to provide a truly customised handling solution.
The family of Combilifts continues to grow, with models now spanning a range of lift capacities from 2.5 to 12 tonnes. Combilift also now offers electric trucks as well as LP Gas and diesel models. A new model which has proved particularly popular is the Combilift C5000SL, a 5 tonne capacity 4-way sideloader which is much more manoeuvrable and flexible in use compared to traditional sideloaders. The 4-way capability of the Combilift SL overcomes the inability of a traditional sideloader to block stack, and a low platform height enables better use of low level storage space.
Award Winning Design
The pioneering work of the Combilift design team was recognised at this year’s Fork Lift Truck Association Annual Awards for Excellence, when Combilift was the recipient of the prestigious Design Achievement Award. In the words of the FLTA Chairman, the award was given “In recognition of an innovative truck concept that truly sells itself“.
